Once a giant in the financial world, Duke & Duke Commodities Brokers, Philadelphia, sat on the New York Stock Exchange since it was founded.
However, in January 1983, brothers Randolph and Mortimer Duke made an ill fated move to corner the Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice market through the use of a stolen crop projection report.
They were thwarted and hoodwinked by Billy Ray Valentine and Louis Winthorpe, who replaced the report with a phony report. Valentine and Winthorpe were able to make millions while simultaneously bankrupting the Duke brothers. In doing so, Valentine won a $1 bet with Winthorpe.
